Listeria Enrichment Broth is used for the selective enrichment and isolation of Listeria spp. This medium was developed for the recovery of Listeriamonocytogenes from cheeses and pasteurized milk. Peptones and Yeast Extract supply necessary growth nutrients such as amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, and vitamins. Dextrose is an energy source for the bacteria. Sodium Chloride provides essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Potassium Phosphate, Dibasic acts as a buffering agent. Selectivity for Listeria is accomplished by the addition of Cycloheximide, Nalidixic acid and Acriflavine. Subculturing of enrichment broth onto Listeria selective agar plates is recommended to increase isolation rates.
