Potato Dextrose Agar is a solid medium recommended for the general-purpose cultivation and isolation of yeasts and molds from foods, dairy and cosmetics. The nutritionally rich base provided by Potato Infusion and Dextrose encourages mold sporulation and pigment production in some fungi. Lowering the pH to 3.5 ± 0.1 inhibits bacterial growth and aids in the isolation of fungi. Please note reheating the acidified medium will hydrolyze the gelifying agent Agar.
