Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar is used for the detection and determination of Enterobacteriaceae in food and dairy products. The Enterobacteriaceae family includes lactose-fermenting coliforms and non-lactose fermenting species like Salmonella and Shigella. Crystal Violet and Bile Salts inhibit the growth of Gram-positive microorganisms. Pancreatic Digest of Gelatin and Yeast Extract provide nitrogen, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids essential for bacterial growth. Bacteriological Agar is the gelifying agent. Dextrose and Lactose are the fermentable carbohydrates and Sodium Chloride supplies essential electrolytes and maintains the osmotic equilibrium.
