Product Description

Ashing, calcination, loss-on-ignition determinations, sintering, glass fusing, enamel work and the heat treatment of metals all require a chamber that will hold a set point for hours at a time at temperatures a drying oven cannot approach. A laboratory oven tops out near 300 °C; the FO-211CR operates from 100 °C to 1150 °C. It is a muffle furnace in the original sense of the word: the 3.75 L work chamber is lined with ceramic fiber and the iron-chrome resistance elements sit outside it, so the sample is never exposed to the heating elements or to combustion products. What goes in comes out contaminated only by whatever the crucible contributes.

The CR suffix marks the communication-port version. The furnace carries a serial port so temperature and status can be logged to a PC and the unit driven remotely, which matters when an ash-content or LOI method has to produce an auditable record rather than a number written on a clipboard. The microprocessor PID controller holds ±2 °C at 1150 °C and stores ramp-and-soak programs — up to 30 steps in a single pattern, or 15 steps across two patterns, or 10 steps across three — so a multi-stage firing schedule is set once and repeated exactly. Program memory survives a power interruption, and power-failure compensation decides whether the run resumes or stops when the supply returns.

Installation Requirements

• Electrical: AC 220 V single phase, 7.5 A, 50/60 Hz. This unit ships no plug, round terminal — a licensed electrician must hard-wire it to a dedicated circuit. Confirm the circuit before ordering.
• Ventilation: the top exhaust port must vent to a fume hood or an exhaust duct when ashing organic material or anything that releases smoke or vapour.
• Clearance: keep the furnace away from combustible surfaces and leave free space around the cabinet for the cooling fan.
• Surface: a bench or stand rated for approximately 66 lb.
