Product Description

Hygroscopic material picks up water from room air whether or not anyone is watching it. Desiccant tablets, lyophilized standards, reference powders, electronic components, cast films and anything weighed to four decimal places will all drift overnight in an open cabinet, and that drift shows up later as a result nobody can explain. A desiccator cabinet gives the material a sealed, low-humidity space to live in between uses — with a hygrometer on the door, so the humidity is something you read rather than something you assume.

This is the amber acrylic series, and the colour is the whole point. Light degrades a long list of laboratory materials: photoinitiators, many APIs and reference standards, fluorescent dyes, silver salts, vitamins, peroxides and most photoresists. Amber acrylic blocks the short-wavelength end of the spectrum that does the damage, so one cabinet controls humidity and light exposure. If your material is only moisture-sensitive, the clear (PLA-CGNS series) is the identical cabinet and costs less.

Choosing a Size

Note the two 12" × 12" × 24" options. The 861 splits that height into two sealed cubicles; the 8615 leaves it as one tall space with eleven shelf positions. Same footprint, different problem solved. Two cubicles also mean two independent atmospheres — purge one with nitrogen and leave the other on desiccant, or simply keep incompatible materials apart.
