What is STK Spray?
STK Spray is the first screening solution that enables a sharp localization of sperm traces directly on the rape scene, whatever the suspected material but textile (floor, furniture, door handle, sink, tree leaves, grass, gravels…).
STK Spray disrupts current procedures by instantly and reliably detecting semen traces directly on the scene.
AXO Science’s goal is to empower Police forces with leading technologies by bringing this new tool to the very hands of Crime Technicians on site and allow a complete screening of a rape case. Stop wasting time with tons of false positives.
STK Spray is a presumptive test for the detection of human male semen (seminal fluid). Its reagents react with the acid phosphatase enzyme present in human seminal fluid, and a positive result appears as a blue fluorescent signal under a 365/366 nm UV light with visible light filter. It gives CSI units a non-toxic alternative to traditional acid phosphatase (AP) spot tests, which rely on lab-prepared toxic reagents, and to screening with an alternate light source (ALS) alone, which AXO Science reports can produce false positives and false negatives. Located stains can then be collected for DNA analysis as part of sexual assault evidence processing.

How it works
- Put on UV protective glasses and screen the area with the UV light first, to identify anything that fluoresces on its own.
- Dissolve 1 STK Spray pouch in 100 ml of demineralized water and wait 30 seconds; shake lightly if needed.
- In the dark, spray the area lightly with a fine mist. Do not over-spray.
- Wait 45 seconds to 3 minutes and read with the UV light: semen stains glow blue.
- Collect the located stains for DNA analysis.
Always run a positive control (STK Positive Control) with each analysis to validate the reagent and your UV light.
Cautions
- STK Spray MUST NOT be used on textile and fiber evidence. Use STK Lab impregnated paper instead (Ref. AXO-STK-9240, AXO-STK-9210, AXO-STK-A3-20).
- STK Spray MUST NOT be used on a living person’s body. Use STK Skin instead (Ref. AXO-STK-SK-10).
- Do not use STK Spray and STK Lab on the same evidence.
