Strict anaerobes die on contact with oxygen. Not slowly — a Clostridium or a methanogen exposed to room air is finished before you have finished carrying the plate across the bench. Anaerobic jars and sachets work for short holds, but the moment the work involves inoculating, picking colonies, weighing, pipetting or reading a plate, the organism has to stay in the atmosphere while your hands do the work. That is what a glove box chamber is for.
The Yamato AC-515A is a 55" two-glove chamber shipped as a complete, ready-to-use unit. Gloves, catalyst heater, drying train and molecular sieves are all included — no installation, no additional accessories to source, no integration project. You supply the gas and the bench space.
This is the automatic purge version. Bringing a manual chamber to a strict anaerobic state is a procedure: evacuate, backfill, repeat, watch the indicator, judge when it is done. On the AC-515A it is one button — press "Go Anaerobic" on the colour touchscreen and the purge sequence runs itself. The display shows the atmospheric oxygen condition continuously and switches to ppm once O₂ drops below 0.5 %, which is the resolution you actually need to know whether the chamber is fit for a strict anaerobe. There is also one-touch on-screen data logging.
The trade-off is money: the manual AC-515 is the same 55" chamber for $18,910 less. The automatic version earns that difference back in a busy shared laboratory where several people purge the chamber each week and consistency matters more than capital cost — and where the logged record of the purge is itself worth having.

Gas is not included. An anaerobic chamber needs a mixed gas supply — typically nitrogen with a few percent hydrogen for the catalyst to scavenge residual oxygen, plus CO₂ where the culture requires it — with regulators. We can specify the gas package with you.

The 76" models are not just bigger — they carry two pairs of gloves, so two people can work in the chamber at once, and a six-canister drying train instead of three. If more than one person will use the chamber simultaneously, that is the deciding factor, not the volume.
Installation Requirements
- Electrical: AC 220–240 V. No special installation — the chamber ships complete.
- Gas supply: mixed anaerobic gas with regulators, not included.
- Floor space: 55" × 35" × 38" including the transfer chamber, plus room to stand and work at the gloves.
- Delivery: crated shipping weight 395 lb. Check door widths and the delivery path — a 55" chamber does not go through a standard doorway assembled.
