Product Description
A rotary evaporator condenser fed from the tap is a quiet waste problem: it runs cooling water down the drain for the whole distillation, the temperature drifts with whatever the building supply is doing that day, and in a lot of jurisdictions it is simply not allowed any more. A recirculating chiller closes that loop — the same water goes round and round at a temperature you set.
The CB-100 is the unusual one in this range because it heats as well as cools: −10 °C to 80 °C from a 3.4 L benchtop unit. That makes it a temperature-control device rather than just a chiller — useful for a jacketed vessel, a reaction that needs to be held warm and then crashed cold, or any application where the set point moves. Its high head and flow rate mean it circulates stably even when it is sitting under a bench and has to push water upward to the equipment.
Key Features
- Heats and cools: −10 °C to 80 °C — a temperature controller, not just a chiller
- 3.4 L reservoir in a benchtop footprint
- High head and high flow rate — circulates stably even installed under a bench, pushing water up to the instrument
- Stainless steel water reservoir
- R134a refrigerant
- Chromium-free electrogalvanized steel exterior with baked-on finish
- Chloroprene, EPDM and polyethylene insulation

Choosing Between Them
| Model | Capacity | Temperature range | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| CF-303Y (115 V) / CF-313Y (220 V) | 3.9 L | −20 to 30 °C | One rotary evaporator, limited bench space |
| CF-802A-115V | 16 L | −20 °C to RT | Up to four rotary evaporators from one chiller |
| CB-100-115V / 220V | 3.4 L | −10 to 80 °C | Work that needs heating as well as cooling |
The deciding question is usually not capacity but whether you ever need to go above ambient. If you do, the CB-100 is the only one in this range that will do it. If you only ever need to remove heat, a CF costs less and is purpose-built for it.
Installation Requirements
- Electrical: AC 220 V.
- Ventilation: a chiller rejects the heat it removes into the room. Leave clearance around the air intake and exhaust, and do not box it into a cabinet.
- Coolant: use clean water or a water/glycol mix appropriate to your lowest set point. Tap water left standing in a reservoir grows biofilm; plan on periodic changes.
- Hoses: insulated tubing sized to your instrument, not supplied.
